Even before knowing how to make your website, you need to think about who you're making it for and why : If you don't know how to answer these questions, you run the risk of making a website that may be pretty, but won't serve much purpose…
[ ] What do you want to achieve with your website ? It could be, for example: stop spending too much time explaining my offers, receive more direct requests, grow my e-mail list, appear more credible and professional to my customers...
[ ] Who do you want to reach with your website : who is your perfect customer ? By determining this, you'll be able to write content with this ideal customer in mind, and it'll have a much greater impact when people read you !
Now you know who you're talking to and why, so you can decide on the content of your website. Don't be in a hurry, we're not at the editorial stage yet. For now, you'll need to define your menu, its hierarchy, its different pages... in short, what people will find on your website.
[ ] Which pages do you need? What are the links between them? FYI, a basic website generally includes at least a home page, an about page, a services/products page and a contact page.
[ ] What's the main information your ideal customer needs on your different pages? Remember, 1 page = 1 goal = 1 action the reader will take. For example, going to the contact page to send you a message, or buying a product... But it's all about giving them enough information to make them want to take the next step ! At this stage, don't write anything down, just put on paper (or digital) the main ideas of each page
